Joseph E. Scherger, MD, MPH

Founder & Medical Director

Dr. Joseph Scherger founded Restore Health Disease Reversal in 2020 with a commitment to helping patients improve their health through personalized medical care, nutrition, and lifestyle. His concierge approach allows time to understand each patient’s history, priorities, and goals—and build an ongoing relationship focused on prevention and lifelong wellness.

A graduate of the UCLA School of Medicine, Dr. Scherger completed his family medicine training and earned his Master of Public Health at the University of Washington. He practiced medicine and taught in Davis and San Diego before moving to the Coachella Valley in 2009 to lead primary care and medical education at Eisenhower Health.

Dr. Scherger serves as a core faculty member with the Eisenhower Health Family Medicine Residency Program and as a Clinical Professor of Family Medicine at USC, UC Riverside, and Loma Linda. His honors include recognition as National Family Doctor of the Year in 1989 and six consecutive years as a San Diego “Top Doc.”

Since expanding his practice to include functional medicine in 2011, Dr. Scherger has emphasized the role of nutrition and lifestyle in addressing the factors that contribute to chronic disease. At Restore Health, he combines that perspective with comprehensive primary care to help patients pursue better health, maintain independence, and live well throughout the years ahead.

Tiffany Capobianco, PA-C

Tiffany Capobianco, PA-C, is a physician assistant at Restore Health in Indian Wells, where she provides concierge primary care to patients of all ages. She earned her Master of Medical Science in Physician Assistant Studies from Yale School of Medicine and will complete a Doctor of Medical Science degree at Butler University in December 2026.

Tiffany came to medicine by way of nutrition. Raised in Southern California, she earned bachelor’s degrees in both human nutrition and dietetics from Kansas State University. She went on to run a private nutrition practice in the Coachella Valley for more than a decade, helping patients with autoimmune conditions, digestive disorders, and food allergies. For most of those years, she also worked in pain management as a nutrition consultant and medical assistant, where working alongside a physician assistant showed her the role she wanted for herself. She entered PA school knowing the kind of clinician she wished to become — one who goes deeper with patients to understand what is driving a condition, so she can treat it more effectively.

Her clinical training spans primary care, internal medicine, cardiology, pediatrics, women’s health, dermatology, orthopedics, and emergency medicine, at sites including Yale New Haven Health and Eisenhower Health. She completed her primary care rotations at Restore Health under Dr. Joseph Scherger, so she knew the practice and its patients before joining the team. Her graduate capstone, a continuing medical education manuscript on perimenopause screening in women under 45, reflects her interest in prevention and in the diagnostic gaps that leave patients without answers. With patients, she focuses on preventive care, cardiometabolic health, hormone and women’s health, and nutrition plans people can actually stick with.

Outside the clinic, Tiffany has served on nonprofit boards supporting women’s higher education, expanded healthcare access, and programs for local at-risk youth. She is also a graduate of Leadership Coachella Valley. She has called the Greater Palm Springs area home for more than twenty years and lives there with her husband, their two children, and two German Shepherds. She golfs, plays tennis, hikes, and travels with family and friends whenever she can. Practicing medicine in the community she calls home is the best reward she could ask for.

Laura Gomez

Practice Associate

A lifelong Coachella Valley resident, Laura brings more than 20 years of healthcare experience and a longstanding connection to Dr. Scherger’s patients. She completed her Administrative Medical Assistant training after attending College of the Desert and began her healthcare career with Eisenhower Urgent Care in 2005.

Laura later joined Dr. Joseph Scherger’s Primary Care 365 practice at Argyros, where she served as Front Office Lead and Office Coordinator and helped train new front office team members from 2010 to 2023. She continued working alongside Dr. Scherger when she joined Restore Health in 2023.

As a Practice Associate, Laura helps coordinate patient communication, lab orders, prescription refills, and other day-to-day needs, providing an important connection between patients and their care team.

Outside of work, Laura enjoys spending time outdoors, taking in the Coachella Valley’s mountain views, and staying busy as a soccer mom.

Barbara Bartosik

Office Manager

Originally from Germany, Barbara brings a diverse background in languages, education, travel, and event planning to her role as Office Manager at Restore Health. She earned her master’s degree in Spanish, Italian, and German linguistics from Johann Wolfgang Goethe University Frankfurt and also studied at the University of Salamanca in Spain.

Her career has included work as a conference interpreter, translator, travel guide, and event planner, followed by 14 years in education with Central Washington University and Palm Valley School in Rancho Mirage.

Since making the Coachella Valley her home, Barbara has continued to pursue her long-term interest in nutrition, wellness, and healthy living. At Restore Health, she enjoys getting to know our patients and helping create the personal, welcoming experience that is central to our practice.

Outside the office, Barbara enjoys yoga, Pilates, swimming, hiking, trying new recipes, spending time with her dog, and spending time with family and friends.
